Our theology of prayer is formed by the practice of Jesus recorded in the four gospels, the teaching of scripture in both the Old and New Testaments, and the history of the Christian church. We pray because Jesus prayed. We pray as he taught us to pray (Matt. 6:9-15 and Luke 11:1-11). We pray using all the wisdom and insight available to us through the lives and examples of those who have gone before us. We pray in and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Upper Room believes that prayer is one spiritual practice that is available to all. Our commitment is to help you to discover this practice for yourself and then to make it available to others through a simple telephone call.
